Dr. Melissa Weisman DVM

Dr. Weisman graduated high school from Saint Paul Academy and Summit School in St. Paul, Minnesota.  She attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she received a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Zoology.  Her academic achievements included memberhips in the Mortar Board, Phi  Kappa Phi, Golden Key, and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Societies. She went on to earn her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine.  Following graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Weisman completed an intensive one year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in Champagne-Urbana.

Dr. Weisman returned home to the Twin Cities after completing her internship and has practiced progressive small animal medicine in the metro region for over twenty years.  In addition to her small animal experience, Dr. Weisman provided veterinary care for the animals at the Minnesota Zoo for several years.  In 2009 she decided to follow her passion for diagnostic ultrasound and began intensive ultrasound training.  Her extensive education includes one year of one-on-one training with a veterinary radiologist as well as other boarded specialists.  To date, she has completed over 300 credit hours in specialized veterinary ultrasound training courses including basic and advanced coursework at the well renowned Academy of Veterinary Imaging in Arlington, Texas.  Dr. Weisman established her mobile practice, Minnesota Veterinary Ultrasound, in 2010 and now provides ultrasound services for multiple clinics in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas.

Dr. Weisman is an active member of the International Veterinary Ultrasound Society (IVUSS) and the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA).  Her other professional memberships include the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the MVMA Academy of Veterinary Medical Practice, and the American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR)-Ultrasound Society.  Dr. Weisman’s favorite activities include canoeing, kayaking, cross country skiing, baking, and spending time with friends and family.  She also enjoys spending time with her dogs, guinea pigs, and twenty-two year old Cockatiel.

Dr. Weisman has completed over 300 continuing education credits in small animal diagnostic ultrasound imaging in addition to one-on-one mentoring with a veterinary radiologist and other boarded specialists.  Her ultrasound training and education courses have been taught by nationally and internationally known veterinary boarded radiologists, cardiologists, internists, and other boarded specialists who are at the top of their field.  Click on the Continuing Education link below for a full list of Dr. Weisman’s completed ultrasound courses and continuing education.
